SACD,
DVD and TNT
Friends,
sometimes I just don't understand you. I don't understand
why you comply, even if not willingly, to the frenzies
and the swindles of the market, and then you cry wolf
when the market eventually offers you all a chance.
I am talking, obviously in an ironic and sympathetic
way, to those "boys" - some of which are quite grown
up by now - who love the best hi-fi, to those whose
hi-fi history has been a long and passionate horse
ride, longer than Henry Fonda's or Gregory Peck's
ones...

PS Audio HCA-2 |

As
I was saying in the preview, the PS Audio HCA-2
power amp is a sort of premiere down here, being
the first amp sporting a digital technology power
stage to be actively marketed in the audiophile
market sector. The so-called class D amps, one of
the hot arguments in the audio field, have some
very interesting features, mostly in terms of efficiency
and compactness. I have seen, in a consumer audio
supermarket-like shop, an impressive Sony system,
packing a DVD player and a 5-channel, 60W amp in
a compact CD player-sized case.

It's
a war, isn't it?
I
was researching the history of the two "contenders"
inception some days ago. What amazes now, looking
back, is the fact that, in 1999, on the eve of the
European launch of the formats (better, on the eve
of the tentative launch date) SACD perspective seemed
to be a dim one.

Lots
of words have been spent by now in the hi-fi world
about the fatal effects of jitter on the sound of
our beloved CD players. I'll try to resume the matter
in VERY plain and concise words, the more expert
among you are begged to forgive me. Any CD Player
picks up the data from the disc according to its
internal clock.

I
must admit that, when about one year ago the rumor
spread of this very peculiar turntable mat, I thought
it was one of the many mountebank exercises of a
market that, relying on an apparently unlimited
trust by its public, has been producing quite a
lot of swindles along the last twenty years.

Neutral Cable Avatar |

Neutral
cable is a small enterprise, started recently by
a fellow audiophile. I know the man behind Neutral
Cable since long, and this made me wonder about
the opportunity of this review, since someone might
think there's something not fair behind it.
