Interview with Roberto De Filippo of Boomerang Cables

Tell more about you and about your entry in cables "game"

About me I can say that I’m 42, I’m a photographer and it’s since I was 10 that I play drums, and I still play (you may find some pieces at the following address: www.thegreatcomplotto.it, may nickname is Plastic); from here to the world of hifi and good sound as user it was an easy step. Why did I started to produce audio cables? The audio market simply didn’t offer audio cables suitable for me because of both quality and price. So I started to build them myself with great satisfaction, and the next step was to produce them

The history of your involvement in hifi industry and research…

My friends drove me to market a project that was merely personal at the beginning. They tried my cables and all suggested to market them. My research about cables is in constant development; I work at a semi-artisan level and I always try new solutions; I’ve got lots of "beta" series in course of fulfilment. I’m very demanding and my cables has to satisfy extremely high standards, otherwise they’re immediately discarded. Balance and neutrality are my cables main characteristics, but must have musicality, dynamics and transparency too.

More about the beginning of your Firm

It’s been very easy. I just let my products tried and all started by itself. Of course my business in very small compared to big cables industries, but this is an advantage: I work with enthusiasm with a few reliable partners. I don’t have a big production, but I don’t complain, because this is a passion for me and I think accordingly.

Which is your opinion about Cable industry in general

Looking around to the prices, you may easily form an opinion on the subject. If you’re a fan, you may have to decide between buying a car or a pair of cables for your equipment. It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it or not, or eventually look for other cables that provide the same result at a lower price.

The "question" of cables prices and the understanding Cable Pricing

Cable pricing comes from good sense of the manufacturers, the sellers, and last but non least the purchasers.

Snake oil and cables manufacturing

See above…

The future of hifi cables industry and the future of your firm

Cables will always be very important for hifi fans around the world, so I don’t see problem for cable manufacturers, except for those you called "snake oil" vendors. About the future of my company, I believe it’s all up to the purchasers, as long as they will believe in what they buy and the product will come up to their expectations.
